چکیده

Since the demonstration of the tumor-producing properties of polyoma virus in newborn hamsters by Eddy et al. (7) and Axelrad et a!. (1), it has been shown by Dulbecco and Vogt (4), Sachs (18), and Stoker and MacPherson (921) that the viruscan convert'culturedhamster embryo cells to cells with altered in vitro growth properties and with the capacity to produce tumors when in jected into animals (4). The present study is con cerned with the growth properties in culture and in the animal of polyoma cells induced both in vivo and in vitro.

Urine Cytology: Useful Screening Method for Polyoma Virus Nephropathy in Renal Transplant Patients

Polyoma virus nephropathy occurs in 3% to 4% of renal transplant recipients, causing graft loss in 50% of cases. The objective of the present study was to explore the effects of age, sex, post-transplantation period and plasma creatinine levels on the polyoma virus infection in kidney transplanted patients. Urine samples were collected from 362 patients, centrifuged and microscopic slides prepa...

An epithelial cell line with chronic polyoma infection established from a spontaneous mouse pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

The establishment of an epithelial cell line from a mouse pancreatic adenocarcinoma is described. The cell line, designated LTPA, was aneuploid and exhibited many transformed growth properties (rapid growth rate, failure to show density-dependent inhibition of growth, ability to grow in defined medium). A type C oncornavirus was isolated from the culture medium, and electron microscopy also rev...

Temperature-dependent properties of cells transformed by a thermosensitive mutant of polyoma virus.

In cells transformed by ts-3, a thermosensitive mutant of polyoma virus, the loss of inhibition of DNA synthesis by topographical factors (topo-inhibition), is rendered temperature-dependent, providing evidence that the viral genome controls this essential aspect of transformation. The expression of two other attributes of transformed cells, growth in agar and serum requirement for initiation o...

Immunologic responsiveness and the induction of experimental neoplasms.

of polyoma virus. Age susceptibility to the oncogenic effects of virus was extended to the adult period. The usual stigmata associated with thymectomy at birth were not observed in the 3-day thymectomized mice. Nevertheless the methods used to restore immunologically deficient neonates were also effective in restoring the capacity to resist tumor induction by polyoma virus. Growth curves of pol...

Comparative Oncogenic Properties of Deoxyribonucleic Acid from Primary Parotid Gland Tumors, Passage Parotid Gland Tumors, and Polyoma Virus.

was demonstrated that deoxyribonucleic acid extracted from mouse parotid gland tumors and inoculated into newborn AKR mice resulted in a high incidence of these tumors and epithelioid thymomas in animals of 3—4months of age. The oncogenic properties of the nucleic acid were abolished by incubation with deoxyribonuclease but not by ribonuclease. It was not clear from these studies whether the ...
